What to expect & FAQ's

Welcome!

I hope that you take the time to read this page so that you know what to expect from your experience with me. Photographers are all different, but if my style and process sound like what you are looking for then I can't wait to meet you!

Let's get started, shall we?!

How would you describe your photography style?

I like to describe my photography style as authentic & organic with a documentary & editorial twist. I'm constantly watching for those candid, raw, & real moments of genuine emotion, love, & pure bliss.

What do I wear?

Be comfortable. We’ll probably do some walking around the location and it’s best if you are wearing clothes and shoes that are comfy - but also remember that you'll have these photos forever, so don't be afraid to dress up! You can pull off a lot more layers, jewelry, and even makeup in photos, so keep that in mind. Bring options to the shoot, and I would be happy to help you choose what I think will be best! & when in doubt… Pinterest it out!!!

I’m kind of camera-shy, any advice?

No worries! I love working with people and posing them so they that are comfortable and look natural. I think it’s the moments in-between poses and expressions that are the best. If you feel like you’d be more comfortable having a friend/family member along for the shoot, feel free to invite one other person!

What if it rains?

If it rains, we have a few options! We can either strap on our rain boots, pull out the umbrellas, and get creative in the rain, photograph in a naturally well-lit place indoors with lots of windows, or we can simply reschedule!

Do you travel?

Absolutely!  Any opportunity to travel & create something beautiful is definitely on my YES list!  .. unless you are travelling to space ( which by the way freaks me RIGHT out just thinking of it).. then there are no travel restrictions for me :)

The last few years I have been working the surrounding areas of Simcoe County, Mulmur, Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Barrie, Midland, Muskoka & Huntsville regions.  * Should arrangements surpass 1 hour of travel time, subject to travel fees may apply.

Do feel free to contact me for  travel fees that are specific to your location!

Do you edit all of the photos?

I go through all of the photos taken at the shoot & cull out the best ones to personally edit and then give to you.  Each image that you receive will be individually edited to bring out the vision & it’s best qualities.

Do you shoot in RAW?

Yes. RAW allows me to get the best quality and image detail when I am processing the photos.

When will I get my pictures?

My goal for portraits sessions is 3 weeks, and for weddings/ elopements it can take up to 12 weeks.

How will I receive my photos?

Turnaround time is 2-3 weeks, but I will send you sneak peeks and post some on Instagram along the way! When you get your images, they'll be delivered to you in an online gallery that you can download all the files from, share with family and friends, and COMING SOON you will be able to order prints straight from it!

What if I need to reschedule our portrait session?

I understand that life happens, and that a date that works at the time of booking, can be affected due to sickness, personal situations, or just plain awful weather, which would disrupt our planned time together. Because of this, I am happy to re-schedule up to 2 times without an additional fee.

Can I share my images on social media?

Heck yes you can! Just pinky promise not to crop or edit them in anyway! (I hand edit each image to look its absolute best, so filters aren't necessary.) :)

What editing programs do you use?

90% of my edits happen in Lightroom, and the rest are finished in Photoshop to take care of what Lightroom can't handle. When it comes to blemishes, I can take care of it... but please know I will not adjust your body to look like someone else's. We are all imperfectly perfect...and I like to keep it that way.

I’m into photography. Can I assist, second shoot, or intern?

I love to hear that! I am not currently looking for an intern, but am always happy to meet new photographers who can assist/second shoot weddings with me!

WEDDING FAQ's

Throughout your wedding day, it’s easy to lose sight of those details that make up your day, &  the moments seem to vanish before you even realize it. I believe the images that I capture are ultimately heirlooms that will be passed down from generation to generation.

Before your wedding, I want to get to know each other! I want you to feel like I'm just another friend there on your big day! Let's grab a cup of coffee and see how we vibe!

How far should we book in advance?

Typically 12 months in advance, as soon as you have a date and venue.

Are your wedding packages flexible?

Yes. My goal is to help you find a wedding package that fits your needs and budget. Please contact me if you have questions about my wedding photography packages/services or don’t see what you’re looking for.

How many photographs will we receive?

Generally 65-100 photographs per/hour of coverage.

Do you shoot video?

I focus my attention only on photography, but I can recommend some great videographers!

Do you offer albums?

Yes. I offer custom-designed Fine Art albums in natural linen or leather.  I also offer a la carte items if you wish to add an album to your package :)

Do you take getting-ready shots?

These are some of my favourite photographs to capture. The energy and excitement of everyone moving about is there, but I can also capture the calm and solemn moments when the bride and groom think about their wedding vows, the friends and family around them, and everything leading up to and away from this moment.

When/where should we meet for our engagement session?

I recommend shooting your engagement session about 6-8 months before the wedding. Of course, it depends greatly on how you plan to use the engagement photos. If you wish to include them in save-the-date cards, you might want to shoot the session a little earlier.

The location depends on you as a couple. Do you prefer an outdoor/nature setting, or a downtown/urban feel ?  …or get more personal and  have your photos taken in your home.  There are a number of wonderful locations that work wonderfully to speak to who you are as a couple.

Should we (the bride & groom) plan to see each other before the ceremony?

This is something that's completely up to you. I completely understand the tradition of the groom seeing his bride for the first time as she's walking down the isle. However, if you do decide to see each other before, we will arrange a beautiful location for a "first look" photo session. We can then proceed to shoot family and wedding party formals before the ceremony begins. Doing so will give you more time after their ceremony to greet guests and begin enjoying your reception.

Some brides and grooms have mentioned that seeing each other before the ceremony helped calm their nerves.  Yet, some feel that taking away that moment at the altar is just not worth it. So, talk it over with your fiancé and find what works best for both of you.

When should we do the wedding portraits?

This also is mostly up to you, but usually a couple of hours before the ceremony or immediately following the ceremony. Shooting before the ceremony allows you to check one more thing off the day’s to-do list early on and, more importantly, to afford you and the wedding party a chance to enjoy the cocktail hour and mingle with your guests. Shooting after the ceremony, depending on the time, could allow you to take advantage of the setting sun and its softer light.

I really want you to stay until the end of my wedding.  Will you?

Of course!  Select packages include capturing your day from the beginning of your hair/makeup through the last major event of the reception.  Additional coverage is always available no matter how much more you would like covered.

Do I have to provide meals for vendors at my wedding?

Basically, I am able to work on a higher level for longer if I’ve been fed!  I require a meal to be provided for any coverage over five hours.  If you choose not to provide a meal for me, I will take a one hour break at some point during your reception to have a meal.

What will you wear to shoot?

It depends on the type of wedding/event you are having!  If you are planning a formal, black-tie wedding, I'll be dressed in mostly black and probably a jacket.  If you are getting married on the beach in Hawaii, probably a long dress or lighter pants and a blouse.  I always try to dress professionally and appropriately for the location and event I am shooting.

My Husband/Wife hates being in photos- can you help?

It would be my pleasure to help :). If you are a grown up who just hates being in photos, I try to shoot quickly and we take lots of breaks to chat and have fun.  I regularly hear from my clients that they are surprised at how easy and relaxed they felt at their shoot.  *Engagement sessions are a great way to practice being in photos and working with me so that way your wedding photos are much more natural, easy, and fun!

Do you take dance shots?

YES!  That’s where the fun is!  I am right there with everyone on the dance floor like a ninja with cameras firing off!

You’re the photographer for us!  How do we reserve our wedding date?

Great!  The next step is to email me and to let me know your date so I can check my availability.  Once we select the best package for you, I will send you a contract to sign and instructions on how to pay the retainer.  I cannot hold any date for either a portrait or a wedding without both the retainer and contract completed.  I can't wait to work with you!
